Pondside Gothic
The owners of this 1930s Gothic Revival wanted to bring the grand home into the modern era, requiring four stories of renovation. Staircases needed headroom. Halls and circulation space needed to be redirected and opened to the views of the pond. We combined two bedrooms and a tiny bath into an expansive Primary Suite. A low ceilinged screen porch, which had been enclosed by a previous owner, was removed and replaced with a deck with a kitchenette that is open to the sky. The unfinished basement and unfinished attic were reclaimed and renovated into a cool kid hang out space, and a vaulted ceiling workout area respectively. By adding one window we were able to create a siteline from the front entry through to the deck, into the living room, and back outside again to the pond beyond.
